DJ29 × DDU: The Fresher Playbook is a casual, discussion-style Hacktoberfest meetup at Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad, for students of every year and department, with a special focus on first-years.
Most students find out about open-source AI, developer communities and hackathons in their third or fourth year, long after the best chances to benefit from them. This session is about getting there earlier.
What we'll cover:
- Open-source AI models: what they are, how they differ from closed tools, and how to start using them yourself
- Claude Code with free open models: a hands-on walkthrough of setting it up with NVIDIA NIM APIs
- Opportunities students miss: MLH, the DEV community and Hacktoberfest, and how they can help your skills, resume and network
No prior experience is needed. Bring a laptop if you'd like to follow along, but it's not required. This is a discussion, so come with questions.
Organized by Dhruv Jani (DJ29) with the support of the faculty and HOD at DDU.
