Join FEAScript for Hacktoberfest Meet Up in Athens x FEAScript, a small in-person gathering for people interested in open-source, JavaScript and computational mechanics.
FEAScript is an open-source finite element simulation library written in JavaScript that runs directly in the browser, no installation required. In this hands-on Meet Up we will look at how an open-source scientific computing project works from the inside: how the code is organised, how contributions are made and how anyone can get involved.
No previous experience with Git, GitHub or FEAScript is required (It would however help if you create a GitHub account before the event). Engineers, developers, researchers and students are all welcome. Please bring your own laptop
Locations have different requirements for who can attend. This location is open to the following:
10:00 – 10:15 — Welcome section
Short round of introductions.
10:15 – 10:45 — Introduction to FEAScript
Why finite element simulations in JavaScript?
10:45 – 11:15 — Run Your First FEAScript example
Build a 2D geometry in Gmsh, export the mesh and load it into FEAScript to solve.
11:15 – 11:30 — Break
11:30 – 12:00 — Git & GitHub Fundamentals
Repository structure, cloning, branches, commits and pull requests, using the FEAScript codebase as our playground.
12:00 – 12:45 — Hands-on Session
Explore beginner-friendly issues and make your first contribution.
12:45 – 13:00 — Wrap-up
Discuss how to keep contributing, group photo and closing.
FEAScript is a finite element simulation library developed in JavaScript. It enables engineering simulations across both browser-based and server-side environments without the overhead of traditional desktop software.
