Join Android Club VITC for a full-day Hacktoberfest 2026 Hack Day — a mini-hackathon built around open source, AI, experimentation, and shipping.
This isn't a workshop or a lecture. You come with your team, find a problem worth tackling, and spend the day building. Explore open-source AI, experiment with open-weight models, hack on existing projects, and turn your ideas into something you can actually demo.
What to expect
- Build from scratch and turn ideas into working projects
- Tackle real problems using open-source and open-weight AI
- Experiment with AI agents, LLMs, SLMs, and open-source model tooling
- Collaborate in teams of 3–4 and build together
- Explore, break, iterate, and ship something by the end of the day
- Demo your project and present your work to the judges
- Compete for prizes, recognition, and Hacktoberfest awards
Challenge Tracks
Best Use of Gemma 4
Build with Google's lightweight, open model Gemma 4 and explore what you can create with multimodal AI. Projects can use text and images to build assistants, focused AI tools, or creative, learning, productivity, and community-focused applications. You can experiment with Gemma 4 through the Gemini API and turn an idea into a working prototype.
Best Open-Source AI Project
Build an original project where open-source or open-weight AI is an important part of how it works. You can create an agent skill, build with an open-weight LLM or SLM, or build/adapt an open-source model harness. Your project must be published in a public GitHub repository under an open-source license.
Whether you're a seasoned hacker or this is your first hackathon, bring your ideas, your team, and your laptop. There are no lectures to sit through and no workshops to follow — the day is yours to build.

| 9:45 AM – 5:15 PM | Build Time — Teams work on their projects, experiment, collaborate, and iterate |
| 4:45 – 5:15 PM | Project Submission — Final project submissions and required materials |
| 5:15 – 6:45 PM | Project Demos & Judging — Teams showcase their projects and judges evaluate submissions |
| 6:45 – 7:15 PM | Winner Selection & Results — Final evaluation and winner selection |
| 7:15 – 7:30 PM | Winners & Closing — Prize distribution, acknowledgements, and closing remarks |
