AI for Vizag is hosting a Hacktoberfest Mini Hack Day — a hands-on build event for students, developers, designers, founders, and AI enthusiasts who want to explore open-source AI by actually building something.

Hacktoberfest is a global celebration of open source, and this mini hack day brings that spirit to Vizag with a focused theme: learning, building, and contributing through open-source AI tools, open-weight models, agents, and developer workflows.
This is not a lecture-only meetup. Participants will form teams, pick a prize track (Best Open-Source AI Project / Best Use of Gemma 4), build a working prototype, and demo it by the end of the day. Whether you are a beginner trying your first AI project or an experienced builder experimenting with agents and open-source tools, this event is designed to help you move from idea to working demo.
You can build AI agents, productivity tools, local problem-solving apps, developer utilities, student-focused tools, community solutions, or any useful AI-powered project using open-source or openly accessible technologies.

Mentors will be available during the event to help teams refine ideas, unblock technical issues, and prepare their final demos.
Who can attend:
Students, working professionals, developers, designers, product managers, founders, and anyone interested in building with AI.
What to bring:
A laptop, charger, GitHub/GitLab account, internet backup if possible, and a willingness to build.
Team format:
Participants can join solo or as teams. Team formation support will be available at the venue.
By the end of the day, every team is expected to submit a working prototype, a short demo, and a project write-up.

Hacktoberfest Introduction
Brief introduction to Hacktoberfest, open source, open-source AI, and how participants can make the most of the event.
11:05 AM – 11:25 AM
Problem Statements, Rules & Judging Criteria
Explanation of tracks, team format, submission process, demo expectations, judging criteria, and event guidelines.
11:25 AM – 11:45 AM
Team Formation & Idea Finalization
Participants form teams, choose problem statements, finalize ideas, and get mentor inputs before starting.
11:45 AM – 1:30 PM
Build Sprint 1
Teams begin building their prototypes. Mentors will be available for idea validation, technical guidance, and debugging support.
1:30 PM – 2:15 PM
Lunch & Networking
Lunch break, informal networking, mentor conversations, and community interactions.
2:15 PM – 3:45 PM
Build Sprint 2
Teams continue development, refine workflows, test features, and prepare demo-ready versions of their projects.
3:45 PM – 4:15 PM
Submission Window
Teams submit their projects with title, description, demo link or video, repository link, screenshots, and tools used.
4:15 PM – 5:15 PM
Project Demos & Judging
Short demos by shortlisted or all teams, depending on the number of submissions. Judges evaluate projects based on usefulness, open-source AI usage, execution, demo quality, and documentation.
5:15 PM – 5:35 PM
Project Gallery & Community Showcase
Project gallery is made public, teams explore each other’s work, and selected projects are highlighted.
5:35 PM – 5:50 PM
Winner Announcements & Recognitions
Announcement of winners, special mentions, certificates, prizes, and sponsor/partner acknowledgements.
5:50 PM – 6:00 PM
Closing Note & Group Photo
Closing remarks, next steps for participants, community announcements, and final group photo.
