Event Description

Join us for a Hacktoberfest 2026 Hack Day: A hands-on, community-driven hackathon focused on building with open-source AI.

Participants will come together to learn, collaborate, form teams, and build open-source AI projects that address real-world challenges. Whether you're an experienced developer or just getting started with open source and AI, this event is an opportunity to learn by building, contribute your skills, and connect with other members of the tech community.

Come with your ideas, curiosity, and laptop, and let's build something meaningful with open source.

Who can attend?

Locations have different requirements for who can attend. This location is open to the following:

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM | Registration & Check-in
Participant arrival, registration, and check-in.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM | Opening Ceremony & Hacktoberfest Overview
Welcome remarks, introduction to Hacktoberfest 2026, the Hack Day, and the day's activities.

9:30 AM – 10:15 AM | Keynote: “The Future of Open Source AI and AI Agents”
A keynote exploring the growing role of open-source AI, AI agents, and opportunities for developers to contribute to and build within the open-source AI ecosystem.

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM | Workshop: Getting Started with Open Source
A practical introduction to open-source collaboration, GitHub, repositories, contributions, and the essentials participants need for the Hack Day.

10:45 AM – 11:00 AM | Challenge Briefing & Team Formation
Introduction to the hackathon challenge(s), rules, judging criteria, resources, and team formation.

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Hackathon Work Session I
Teams begin building their projects, with mentors available for technical guidance and support.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Lunch & Networking

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM | Hackathon Work Session II
Teams continue building, testing, documenting, and preparing their projects for submission and demonstration.

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM | Project Demos & Judging
Teams present their projects and demonstrate what they built to the judges and other participants.

4:30 PM – 5:00 PM | Awards & Closing Ceremony
Announcement of winners, participant recognition, closing remarks, group photo, and next steps for staying involved in open source.
