Event Description

Build with AI Makerere Hackathon is a student-focused AI hackathon organized by GDG on Campus Makerere University in partnership with Major League Hacking (MLH), Google Build with AI, GitHub, and Google Gemini.

This event brings together students, developers, designers, and AI enthusiasts to learn, build, and collaborate using modern AI technologies, including Gemini APIs and Google Cloud.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to build AI-powered applications
  • Explore Google AI Studio, Gemini APIs, and cloud deployment
  • Work in teams to solve real-world problems
  • Receive mentorship from developers and community leaders
  • Compete for exciting prizes and exclusive swag from MLH and Google

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced developer, this hackathon is designed to help you gain hands-on experience building practical AI solutions.

The event will feature workshops, mentorship sessions, hacking time, project demos, networking opportunities, and community activities throughout the day.

Who can attend?

Locations have different requirements for who can attend. This location is open to the following:

Schedule

  • 9:00 AM – Registration & Check-in
    Arrival, networking, attendee check-in, and swag distribution.

  • 9:20 AM – Opening Ceremony
    Welcome remarks from GDG on Campus Makerere University and MLH introduction.

  • 9:40 AM – Build with AI Workshop
    Hands-on session covering Gemini APIs, Google AI Studio, and Google Cloud tools.

  • 10:30 AM – Team Formation & Hack Sprint Begins
    Participants begin building projects with mentor support.

  • 11:30 AM – Mentorship & Project Support
    Technical guidance, troubleshooting, and deployment assistance.

  • 12:15 PM – Final Project Submissions

  • 12:30 PM – Project Showcases & Judging
    Selected teams present their solutions and demos.

  • 12:50 PM – Winners Announcement & Closing
    Prize recognition, community announcements, and wrap-up.

  • 1:00 PM – Snacks & Networking
    Informal networking session with refreshments.
